Easter doings

On Sat. we checked out an Easter outreach event at a nearby church. Arriving early we avoided lines and got to do all the fun stuff before things got crowded.

Lance loved the petting zoo – the pygmy goats were his favorite.

Inside were carnival booths most of which were a bit too challenging for Lance – however, he could do the bowling and also enjoyed fishing…forget the pole, his hands worked much better 🙂

Lance wasn’t so sure about the Easter bunny, but he really liked “finding” an egg because the jellybeans inside rattled when he shook it.

There were quite a few bounce houses which Lance could only look at, but in a special section for little kids they had a smaller bounce house where Lance and Daddy could have a little fun.

Upstairs and away from all the noise was an “Easter Path” made of ten different stations where you could experience the Easter story.  You could step in sand and wash each others feet, participate in the Lord’s supper, nail your sins to the cross and prepare a “flower” to celebrate resurrection. We really enjoyed this part and adapted it for our Sunday School class the next day.

The class thought the foot washing was a bit strange, but once they got over the fact that Sunday School was not going to be “by the book” they joined in enthusiastically.

Here the kids enjoy grape juice and crackers for the Lord’s supper.

Holding ice as it melts while thinking about Jesus suffering on the cross.

I think it went over well and I’m sure the kids will remember it for a long time.

Projects

We spent most of last Saturday doing some projects around the house.

First of all, we got dirt, plants and seeds to make our garden.  We had enough dirt to fill all seven buckets and planted red, yellow and green peppers, a tomato, cucumbers and some zinnias and sunflowers.  I was excited to find the first of our seeds sprouting this morning!

We also put up a plastic mesh around the balcony so Lance could play out there without the danger of falling through the railings.  Two evenings were spent fixing flats on our bikes and installing some shades on the balcony. Besides blocking the sun, the shades give an element of privacy and we had a candle light dinner on the porch one night!

They can be taught!

They say that more is caught than taught. Recently Lance has been proving that statement as he gives his version of “big people” activities.

Lessons from Mommy:

1. Chores are more fun if you do them with a buddy.

2. Variety is the spice of life.

Lessons from Daddy:

3. Real men do push-ups (daddy was laughing so hard he couldn’t hold his form).

4. Share…share….share….

Bluebonnets!

My Mom stopped by last night on her way to visit my brother in Indianapolis. We decided to take advantage of her many years of experience taking family pictures in the bluebonnets. Mom hopes this post will inspire my siblings at home to get out and take some pictures while she’s gone 🙂

Here’s our cute little family.

I love the colors and expressions in this shot.

Here’s Lance boy about this time last year – about 3 weeks old….and here he is this year, such a big boy!

How do we get all these smiling shots? Do we have a natural camera ham? Not quite….

The first reaction to flower photos was less than picturesque.

However, after being cheered by Grammy…and bribed with Daddy’s cell phone (barely visible above the flowers)…

Lance was all smiles. You see, it’s all a matter of  persuasion.

Sunday stroll

After enduring all of those walks mommy is so fond of taking, Lance finally gets in on the action.

His exercise routine is one lap around the building. Of course, since the new toy is “convertible” he also enjoys a ride – the faster the better!
