Today is Brian’s birthday!
We were at his parent’s house this weekend and as part of a family tradition, Benj. and I prepared a treasure hunt to lead Brian to his presents.
Some clues involved brain work; math or scrambled letters or word puns.
Hearkening back to old times I prepared a short “movie” with a little Hollywood program they used to use. I recreated an event from our married life that led Brian to the next clue.
Some clues were hard to get…and even Lance had a clue!
The final event combined all the clues and led Brian through the house to find…
The “buried treasure”! I drew this picture for Brian’s office and Benj. provided the frame from an old monitor he took apart.
It was fun creating something for my man and even more fun watching him unravel what I had put together. I’m glad we could celebrate with his family where he could once again immerse himself in the same loving atmosphere that shaped his younger years. Praise God for this wonderful testimony of parental love, investment and training. Now that Brian has taken on his own family, I’m confident that he will provide a similar training ground for our own little ones. God has truly given me my heart’s desire in Brian.
I love you my man!

Howdy, mah name’s slim…though most calls me shorty. Life here in these parts is tough, makes men outta boys…if they survive that is. Ya larn quick to wipe yore grin offen yer mug and take things serious like.
This here’s ma pony, ‘ol paint. We hit the trail before sunup and rarely stop fer nothin’ ‘cept grub. When a purty woman rustles up the chuck you’d best be shore and eat – never knowed where the next meal will find you.
A feller’s hat is his pride. Ya wear it right and there ain’t no one that’ll stand up to ya. The bigger the better.
Wahl….I heer ma maw callin’ fer me, so I’d best mosey along. So long pardner.

Here’s a little bit of what has happened the last two weeks….
Today Lance got to try his first “real” food – squash! He looked a bit surprised but sucked it down like everything else we give him. I don’ think he’s going to be a picky eater.
Beautiful weather inspired a picnic with friends! Lance enjoyed the trees while Matthew made sure he didn’t steal any goldfish crackers.
Playtime is becoming a lot more fun now that he can sit up – yes they’re the same toys, but they look different from this angle…
Lance loves to cook with Mommy – everything fascinates him and with the help of my ergo carrier he can get off the cabinet and get in the action! His favorite is to watch bubbling pots (from a safe distance of course).
We’re also experimenting with infant potty training – the way I heard it explained seems doable without spending hours in the bathroom. We had four successful attempts today – probably saved me two diaper changes (sometimes the diaper is already wet when we try but he goes anyhow).
His days are so full that sometimes sleep comes before he’s ready. Here he was playing during supper and slowly nodded off.
He’s also picked up a new sleeping position – kind of on his side. I think that secretly it’s his protest for naptime but somehow sleep always gets the better of him.
We have good times together laughing over laundry, listening to Spanish tapes or quietly doing our own things. But best of all is when Daddy comes home – both of our faces break out into a smile and we serve up the supper that we made together. Lance is a great little buddy to have around.
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

This is Brian, one year ago, off to his first day at the new job.
Two raises, one promotion and a lot of hard work later his job description has changed a little…
Actually, you might say Brian has received two promotions – one at work and one to being a dad.
Looking through pictures from last year I did find something that hasn’t changed,,,bathroom drawers.
All joking aside, a lot has happened in one year. Brian has done very well at his job and gained much valuable experience. I am constantly wowed when he comes home and explains what he’s done each day. I love watching the way his brain solves problems and seeing his constant readiness to take action on a solution. He loves doing a job the right way and doing it well – he takes the time to test and troubleshoots in order to turn out a project that benefits others. He is also constantly researching and expanding his knowledge in an effort to keep up with the changing technology. He’s always willing to help out his fellow workers and has proved himself a valuable employee.
